My First book:

My Journey from the Henhouse to the Manse

In 2003, I began imagining the idea of an autobiography - a memoir, a recording of my own stories. Reading through a book entitled: Writing from Life, by Susan Wittig Albert, PhD, triggered many of my own life events; ones I hadn’t thought of for years, and perhaps may not have otherwise remembered. I began writing anything that came to mind. Eventually, I ended up with 48 chapters of my stories, plus eighteen pages of my dad’s stories in Chapter 49. There is a lot of personal information that is primarily written for my family. I have included an introduction to my immediate and extended family. I have also included some of our children’s stories as well as words to songs that our sons and I have written, plus a 50 page Photo Gallery to illustrate. At the end of most chapters I have included a favorite quote or scripture verse.

I recall the many people, places and events along my life’s journey - all the way from my childhood days to when I met my husband, Fred, our marriage, our children and our ministry. I’m sure each reader, including our own children and grandchildren, will discover many things they may not have known about me or our family. I’d like to think that even our great-grandchildren will read these pages someday, if not in my lifetime, perhaps in years to come.

“Ò, God, You have helped me from my earliest childhood – and I have constantly testified to others of the wonderful things you do. And now that I am old and grey, do not forsake me. Give me time to tell this new generation (and their children) about all your mighty miracles. You have done such wonderful things. I will praise you with music, telling of your faithfulness to all your promises”.

What readers had to say:

STORIES AND SONGS "My Journey from the Henhouse to the Manse"  was a delight to read from start to finish.  I enjoyed its many anecdotes, its inspirational content, and also getting to know the author and her family.  The many photos are a real plus as well.  Overall, a great book and a great read !

Your book is so interesting! I love your definition of “attitude” .  You had a good teacher! What a beautiful bedtime prayer your Mom taught you. I wish every parent would teach their child! You know, Barb, as I read these chapters, I would put your writing ability on the same level as Joyce Meyers and others. I hope you will consider writing for Christian publications  If ever we need words of encouragement and comfort it’s today. May God use you to bless many!

As always your stories are so touching and your poetry so rich. I just love the fact that you are putting music to Scriptures…I can’t think of anything greater than to sing the Word of God….the passages you selected are some of my favorites.

Just wanted you to know that I finished reading your book today; believe me it was hard to put down when I got started--what a blessing it was and I'm sure it will be for your family and generations to come should the Lord tarry.I could relate to some of your childhood memories especially having a heritage of Godly parents. Awesome job Barb!!

Love Marina

I have been enjoying your book, Barb. I think you have another gift in addition to your music, etc., and that is the gift of organizing & journaling. Well done!
